The past 48 hours have been an adventure with lots of new sites to see. We left Tuesday morning at about 4:50AM and stopped in Salina Kansas after 800 miles of driving. Yesterday we drove another 400 miles to Colorado Springs to visit with Westin and Kelsey.
Westin is a young man who serves as a Captain in the Army. I met Westin when he was 14 in the midst of a divorce his parents were going through. He started coming to our church and needed/wanted a mentor in his life. Our family did just that, letting him be part of our family, adding him to our phone plan, spending time with him. He became our babysitter (the best we have ever had) and played music with me on the worship team. During Westin’s senior year of high school I had the privilege of writing a letter of recommendation for Westin’s admittance to West Point Military Academy to the governor of Tennessee. To my delight he was accepted. After 4 years at West Point and a year of flight school Westin joined our troops in Iraq as a commander of a Kiowa helicopter. He also married during that time (a wedding at which I was the best man) and has a beautiful daughter, shown in one of the pictures below. Westin was recently stationed in Colorado Springs and we stopped here to love on his family and show our kids some of God’s beauty.

Last night we went out to Garden of the Gods for a stargazing event. There is a large, local, astronomy club and they had brought out their telescopes for everyone to share. The neatest thing I saw was a clear picture of Jupiter with its rings and 3 moons visible. I didn’t get a picture of that one but I did capture some good ones of the moon through a telescope.

Tomorrow (maybe Saturday) we head to Lake Powell, AZ. Enjoy the pictures.
Love the pictures keep them coming! Be safe love you!!
